Headed back down!

We all know how easy it is to get off track and start going the wrong way. Well, to be completely honest, I got off track recently. My lowest weight was 191.8 lbs since the start of my journey. This was my weight as of August 2nd. Today I weighed in at 208.8 lbs! Why the exclaimation mark? Why do I sound happy? Because, just 14 days ago I was up at 217 lbs. :( I know, aweful. But the good news is I got tired of feeling icky again and regained control. Now you might be wondering how I got off track with my weight loss. Let me explain.

I teach 9 classes every week at the Y. Yes, you read that right, 9 classes every week! Here is my class schedule:
Monday: 10am-10:45am- AOA(Active Older Adults- a low impact class that focuses on light cardio and weight and resistance training)
11am-11:45am- Water Aerobics(light cardio and resistance training with water noodles and water weights)
Tuesday: 5:30pm-6:20pm- Turbo Kick(High intensity choreographed cardio kickboxing)
Wednesday: 9am-9:50am- Turbo Kick
10am-10:45- AOA
11am-11:45am- Water Aerobics
Thursday: 5:30pm-6:20pm- Turbo Kick
Friday: 9am-9:50am- Turbo Kick
10am-10:45am- Water Aerobics

So if you do the math, that's 7 hours and 5 minutes of teaching per week. Plus, I do about 3-4 hours of personal workouts on my own at home ranging from Turbo down to strength training and stretching.

So, if I'm getting in 10+ hours of exercise a week, how on earth did I gain 25 lbs? It's simple. I stopped caring about eating the right foods. I stopped eating to live and started living to eat. There are no excuses for why I started eating the wrong foods. I just saw something I wanted and rather than thinking about my goals, I thought about how yummy it would be for the time being. I didn't think about how it would negatively effect me. Then there was the day when I saw 217 on the scale. My heart sunk! I remembered how difficult it was to lose 90 lbs and then how easy it was to gain 25 of it back, and in such a short time.

This happens to all of us. What did I do to change it? I stopped eating my kids' Halloween candy for starters. I stopped drinking soda again and stopped eating fast food again, with the exception of 1-2 times a week. When I do get fast food, I choose the healthier options again. I started drinking my Shakeology every single day instead of only 2-3 times per week. Wow, I think that was the biggest change right there.

The main thing to remember is that if you get off track, only you can make up your mind to get back on track. When I went to Indy to hear Chalene Johnson speak and she said, "Just decide. Flip the switch and that moment will be your catalyst!" that's when I made the decision to get back in the 100's and never get back into the 200's. I said goodbye to the 200's before and I'm going to do it again, but this time for good! All you have to do is make the decision to make the change that needs to happen in your life and decide NOT to look back! So, what are you waiting for? Just JUMP!

I'm here for help, advice, or just someone to talk to when you're feeling lost. Feel free to message me anytime! My email is lynnbiggestloser@gmail.com.

My Evening with Chalene Johnson!

I got to spend Thursday night, November 4th, 2010, with Chalene Johnson! Chalene is the creator of Turbo Jam, Turbo Fire, ChaLEAN Extreme, Turbo Kick, Hip Hop Hustle, and Piyo. I have personally had the privelege to try all of these formats and they're flipping awesome! This blog is going to highlight most of the notes I took Thursday night, as well as some of my takes from that evening. You're more than welcome to share this with your downline if you're also a Beachbody coach or are involved with any other MLM. In fact, the information she shared with us could really be utilized by anyone looking for success and discipline in their life. Here are my notes. I'll try to go in order of everything she said and how I wrote it in my notebook, but if it doesn't make sense to you like it did to me when I wrote it, feel free to message me so I can explain. Anything that I add on my own I will use parentheses.

Principles of Success and Discipline
~Make a list of 10 things you wnat to achieve. Do this at least annually, however you will see more success with this if it is done weekly. Chalene does this every Tuesday morning at 5:30am with her group called the 3%ers.
~When you create your to do list, make it count towards your list of "10". Put a star next to the things that get others done and do them first so you will be more productive.
~Fall in love with the way you feel and make it a lifestyle.
~Don't make promises you can't keep.
(Chalene talked about her 3%ers group and that every Tuesday they're given a difficult task to complete by their next meeting, ie., one of the members were given the task to prepare and present a speech at a toastmasters meeting. If the member doesn't complete their task that week, they're not allowed to come back to the group until they've completed this. Chalene explained that if you're a leader in whatever your business is and you have a member of your "group" that isn't completing their tasks, they don't get their prize for completing their task...the prize is you. This may sound like tough love, but if they really want your help, they'll start doing what they say they'll do. This goes back to when she says not to keep promises you can't keep.)
Myths related to success:
*They're just lucky
*If I fix this once, I'm good (You've got to manage whatever it is you fixed. This goes for weight loss, therapy, etc.)
*They're more organized than I am
*Inflexible
*Takes too much time
*Stunts Creativity
*Some people are just born with it
*They have more connections than I do
*They actually like to do it
(All of these are excuses! A great book to help cure your excusitis is The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz)
What's in it for you?
*Goals realized faster
*Confidence
*More free time
*Opportunity
*Sense of peace
Success = Happiness
Success is being in charge of your own schedule.
~If your goal doesn't end with "because it makes me happy," then it's not going to end with success.

Step 1:
Define priorities, then your goals.
~Write out, ON PAPER, your top 3 priorities.
What are your goals now and do they reflect your priorities?

Step 2:
Decide. Flip the switch.
That moment will be your catalyst. "Today is the day!"

Step 3:
Behave as though you believe.
~Behave the way you know successful people behave.
~Believe that you deserve it!

Step 4:
Fire your old coach!
~Your current coach is in your head. It's the thing that makes you have any negative thoughts or doubt. Your new coach is entirely positive.
~Everytime something negative creeps into your mind, flip that switch again. Brainwash yourself positive! Make it a habit!
~Start coaching yourself because you're your own winning team!
~No excuses!
~No negotiation!

Step 5:
Accountability
~Just decide what you're going to do!
~Tell someone what it is- DECLARE IT! Do this verbally and ask that person to hold you to your word.(Remember, you can't make a promise you can't keep. Once you speak this out loud, you've promised them and yourself.)
~You said it, now you gotta do it!
~Tell someone who you know you might let down if you fail. You won't want to fail them.
Who are you going to make your accountability declaration to?

Step 6:
Invest in your dream. Don't be cheap with your business!
~To run your business, have business tools.
      *Smart phone
      *Computer
*Personal development tools- it pays you back!
              -Car Smarts(http://chalenejohnson.com/carsmart/)
~Become a student of success.
~An expert is willing to share with you their failures and successes.

Step 7:
Delegate or Die
Delegate: to give authority, empower.
~Stop being a control freak!
~Stop being stingy because you're already paying yourself when you could be applying yourself in your business.
(Chalene talked about sometimes taking the small things that take too much time and delegating them out or hiring someone. She said that she used to spend 3 hrs a day 3-4 times a week just doing laundry. When she hired someone to start doine her laundry, she was more productive in her business and it paid off financially. You may have to invest now in something but it WILL pay off. Guess what I'll be looking for these next few weeks? A high school student who wants to make some cash doing laundry! LOL)

Step 8:
Jump NOW! Just go for it!
~Whatever fear you have, don't let it deter you.
~The longer you wait, the more fear will creep in. Just do it! JUMP!
(Your fears may be public speaking, google toastmasters to help overcome that fear.)

Step 9:
Feel the fear and do it anyways!

Step 10:
Perservere!
~Keep your head forward and keep going.
~Don't worry about others opinions of you .
~Perservere in a way that is in line with your priorities.

Step 11:
Goals and your daily to-do list.
~2-3 things that must be done today!
~The rest would be great if you get them done, but can wait if necessary.
~Start an accountability group. Be willing to tell the group when they're doing something that doesn't line up with their priorities. Expect the same the other way around.
~To-do list should always be on your phones!
(Chalene uses an iPhone and the app she uses is Todoodle do-$3.99. The app I personally downloaded and LOVE is PriorityMatrix and was free.)

Chalene's "role model" is Brian Tracy. Check out http://www.briantracy.com/.

~Your job is to make your spouse feel like the center of the universe. Be his/her biggest fan, even when you're mad.
~Try to find a way to bring your spouse along with you to spend time together.

K, that's all I got. There was so much more, but I could only write so fast. I would've loved to get some video, but they told us at the beginning no video would be allowed. At the end I got to take a picture with Chalene and she signed my Round 42 case and also a Car Smarts case I got at the event. She is truely amazing, hilarious, and beautiful, inside and out. I had waited to meet her since January 2008 and am so glad to have finally met her. The fact that she made Turbo Jam and I saw it on the infomercial that day has helped me completely transform my whole life. Anyone who knew me before that has no idea how much I have changed. I love my life and the changes I've made, I wouldn't change any of it for anything!

Team Beachbody Fact and Fiction - by Tommy Mygrant

Fact: Beachbody is the 69th fastest growing company in the United States according to an article in Entrepreneur Magazine, March 2008.

Fact: Beachbody was started by Carl Daikeler and Jon Cogdon with $500,000 borrowed from family and private investors and is now a $250 million company that spends $90 million on marketing annually.

Fiction: Becoming an Independent Beachbody Coach is a get rich quick scheme.

Fact: With a modest investment of time, it takes about four months to start making money and then only about $100 a week to start. When you invest more time, you make substantially more money.

Fiction: Beachbody coaches are part of a pyramid scheme – a non-sustainable business model that involves the exchange of money primarily for enrolling other people into the scheme, usually without any product or service being delivered.

Fact: Beachbody coaches market fitness and sell products from their own websites and are rewarded for encouraging people to become members of the Team Beachbody Club, get commissions on the fitness products that they sell and can build a business team where everyone is rewarded for their efforts to promote fitness, weight management and improved quality of life. Network Marketing is a business distribution model that allows a parent multi-level marketing company to market their products directly to consumers by means of relationship referral and direct selling.

Fiction: You have to spend a lot of money to be an Independent Team Beachbody Coach.

Fact: It costs $47.99 to become an Independent Team Beachbody Coach and then $14.95 a month if you decide to continue being a coach. There is no other cost for becoming a coach and the $14.95 monthly fee pays for your own coach website and e-commerce fitness product and supplement store.

Fiction: All that you have to do is sign up to be a coach and you will start making money.

Fact: Like any other business (each coach has their own coach business center) you have to work to make money. The more effort you put in, the more money that you will make. Beachbody helps you make money by providing a wealth of information and resources including live and recorded conference calls explaining the company and providing ideas on how to be successful, business building videos, product training sheets to familiarize you with all of the products, success stories, downloadable materials, access to everyone in the management of the company and most of all, your own personal coach to help you build your business.

Fact: Top Coach Christine Dwyer made over $126,000 as her QUARTERLY bonus in 2010. This DOES NOT include her commissions!

Please email me with any questions you may have. If you're interested in getting more information about starting your own Beachbody business, please message me at lynnbiggestloser@gmail.com and I will answer any questions you may have or help you get started.

Yummy Protein Bars

I've had a few requests on the recipe for my homemade protein bars. You can change it a little, depending on what you have, it'll be good if you stick pretty close though. These are good to eat about 15-45 minutes following a workout, or just as a healthy snack.

What you'll need:
~Peanut Butter(Keep it as natural or organic as possible to avoid unneccesary additives-I used Skippy Natural Chunky)
~Honey or syrup
~Old fashioned uncooked oats
~Granola(You'll want loose granola-not a bar)
~Ground Cinnamon
~Blended up fruit(I use 1 whole apple, but you can use pineapple, banana, or something that blends well; use 1-2 tbsp water when blending, no more or it could get too soggy)
~Any kind of whey protein shake mix(I used Beachbody Whey Protein Powder)
~Wax paper
~Large mixing bowl
~2 tablespoons

1) In your large mixing bowl add 1 cup of old fashioned uncooked oats and 1 cup of granola and mix.
2) Sprinkle about 1 tbsp ground cinnamon over your oats and granola mixture and mix again.
3) Add 2 heaping tbsp of your natural peanut butter, blended fruit, and 2-3 tbsp of honey or syrup and mix all ingredients together.
4) Add one scoop of protein powder and mix all ingredients together thoroughly.
5) Take about 18-20 inches of wax paper and lay out on counter. Scoop all of your protein bar mix out on one end and shape into a 6x6 square by folding the other end over so that the entire amount is covered.
6) After shaping into a square, fold all extra pieces of wax paper under and refridgerate for 3-4 hours. It should be firm and sticky when it is ready.
7) Once firm, unwrap from wax paper and transfer to cutting board. I cut mine into 10 servings(one cut down the center and 4 cuts the other direction so that they end up being in a bar shape).
8) Re-wrap with clean wax paper individually and freeze or refridgerate. If they are kept in the freezer they will last longer if you don't plan on eating them within 7-10 days.
9) ENJOY and share with your friends and family! This is a great healthy snack!

My 2nd 5K- Santa Chase

Since this is my first blog on here I'll tell you a little about my first 5K. I had just bought brand new Underarmour shoes and was so excited about my first race. On September 26, 2009 I woke up early because I was so anxious for the race. We started the race at 9am and about 3/4 mile into the race my heels started to hurt. At about 1.5 mile in I took my foot out of my shoe and realized I had a massive blister. I continued on and finished with 52 minutes and 46 seconds for my time. My goal had been to finish at about 45 minutes so I was a little disappointed, but happy that I still crossed the finish line.
Today I knew it would be cold. I had prepared myself and dressed in layers. I had a pair of Nike capris with a pair of long workout pants over them. For my tops I had on a t-shirt, a long sleeve shirt, and my "Fight Like a Girl" hoodie. I had a bandana on as well as a headband ear muff and two pairs of gloves. I was ready! The race started a little late today at 9:35am. I started off running and didn't walk until about 3/4 mile into the race. I didn't let myself walk for long. I had no aches or pains, but due to the 27 degrees it was outside, I was having a difficult time with my breathing. Throughout the race I only walked 5 times and the duration of my walking only lasted about 5-6 minutes total. I had to shed the gloves and ear muffs about 1.5 miles in. I could feel myself starting to lose pace towards the end and just then my good friend, Connie, came up behind me and we finished together.
I had my mom, my kids, and my husband there cheering me on. I was about .1 mile from the end and I was my kids and my mom start running with me to the finish line. It was the most wonderful feeling for my kids to run with me at the end. I grabbed my daughter's hand and we sprinted through the finish line. My finishing time for my Santa Chase 5K was 40 minutes and 24 seconds. I am so proud that I was able to shave off 12 1/2 minutes from my first 5K.
My next 5K will be in April 2010. Maybe there will be another 5K before then, but that is the next one I know of right now. I am just so happy to say that I crossed that finish line yet again, and with such a purpose!
