My 2nd 5K- Santa Chase

Since this is my first blog on here I'll tell you a little about my first 5K. I had just bought brand new Underarmour shoes and was so excited about my first race. On September 26, 2009 I woke up early because I was so anxious for the race. We started the race at 9am and about 3/4 mile into the race my heels started to hurt. At about 1.5 mile in I took my foot out of my shoe and realized I had a massive blister. I continued on and finished with 52 minutes and 46 seconds for my time. My goal had been to finish at about 45 minutes so I was a little disappointed, but happy that I still crossed the finish line.
Today I knew it would be cold. I had prepared myself and dressed in layers. I had a pair of Nike capris with a pair of long workout pants over them. For my tops I had on a t-shirt, a long sleeve shirt, and my "Fight Like a Girl" hoodie. I had a bandana on as well as a headband ear muff and two pairs of gloves. I was ready! The race started a little late today at 9:35am. I started off running and didn't walk until about 3/4 mile into the race. I didn't let myself walk for long. I had no aches or pains, but due to the 27 degrees it was outside, I was having a difficult time with my breathing. Throughout the race I only walked 5 times and the duration of my walking only lasted about 5-6 minutes total. I had to shed the gloves and ear muffs about 1.5 miles in. I could feel myself starting to lose pace towards the end and just then my good friend, Connie, came up behind me and we finished together.
I had my mom, my kids, and my husband there cheering me on. I was about .1 mile from the end and I was my kids and my mom start running with me to the finish line. It was the most wonderful feeling for my kids to run with me at the end. I grabbed my daughter's hand and we sprinted through the finish line. My finishing time for my Santa Chase 5K was 40 minutes and 24 seconds. I am so proud that I was able to shave off 12 1/2 minutes from my first 5K.
My next 5K will be in April 2010. Maybe there will be another 5K before then, but that is the next one I know of right now. I am just so happy to say that I crossed that finish line yet again, and with such a purpose!
